The community is invited to see inside Immanuel Christian School on Thursday, April 8th at 6:30 p.m. as part of the school’s annual Art & Photography night and Admissions Open House. The school’s students will have their work displayed as part of the Art Month celebration.

Immanuel Christian School is continuing in its dedication to decreasing the academic achievement gap by offering newly enrolled students the opportunity to attend ICS in-person during the 4th quarter of this current school year, rather than waiting until September. “We want to help students recover from this year’s learning loss. We have special programs for children that are behind in reading and math and for students that need to get back up to grade level.” says CEO Susan Selby. Immanuel Christian School is the only school in Hazleton to offer MAP Growth assessments, enabling teachers to track student progress all year long.

Students who are already at or above grade level will also find plenty to challenge them. Walking the halls, one finds fifth grade honors students taking Latin and high school students taking Honors Chemistry and AP Computer Science. The school offers leadership opportunities as well in grades 8 and up. One such activity is City Stewardship, in which high school students are empowered to be intentional about making an impact in their community. Eighth graders led the entire student body in a competitive community-building fundraiser called the “Penny Wars” to benefit Kibogora Hospital in Rwanda, Africa. These types of activities are consistent with the school’s mission to offer a grace-filled education that shapes students to become lifelong learners who serve their community with integrity.

When asked about how COVID impacted the school’s ability to deliver education, Selby says, “It was a challenging first half of the year for schools all across the U.S. Our staff demonstrated an amazing ability to think outside of the box and demonstrated their commitment to learning by being flexible to students’ changing needs as the year progressed. Our parents participated in several parent surveys that provided outstanding feedback and input, and we even found time to do some focus groups with our high school students. It’s been a year of growth and change, and we have come out on the other side stronger.”

Immanuel Christian School offers full-day Kindergarten and serves students through 12th grade. Tours include classroom visits and allow parents to learn about the school’s academic programs, high school leadership activities, small class sizes, and extracurricular offerings, including sports, music and art programs. The school’s principal and chancellor will be onsite to talk with families. Busing to Immanuel Christian School is available through most neighboring school districts.
