Cornerstones. In our modern-day construction of wood and steel structures we don’t hear much about them anymore. However, the cornerstone serves a crucial function in a masonry building. All other stones will be set in reference to this stone, thus determining the position of the entire structure.
In the New Testament book of Matthew 21:42, Jesus quotes Psalm 118:22 in reference to himself “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?”
Recently in the news we have seen several well-known people who have professed faith in Christ participating in what they call “deconstructing their faith.” While the phrase is new, the phenomenon is not, and throughout history there have been those who have left the faith. The Bible addresses the issue of turning away from one’s faith many times. Even one of Jesus’ own disciples walked with him for a time, but did not remain.
It is so important to make sure our faith is founded on the cornerstone, Jesus Christ. That cornerstone is the basis for all we do here at WRGN. As we reach out to share the gospel and to build each other up in the faith, it is all done in reference to the example Christ has set for us.
We are grateful for each of you who have come along side of us to help us in this ministry. The ministry of pointing others to the cornerstone! Let us always keep that cornerstone in view.
